MAJOR DUTIES:
Gather information from the patient for frame and lens selection based on their prescription. Assist patients in frame selection, Coordinate and evaluate the optical prescription, in conjunction with patient's vocational and avocational visual requirements, Adjusts frame and lens position to fit patient upon exam. Completes necessary measurements for accurate ordering of eyeglasses, Performs necessary testing using various optician instrumentation and equipment, such as, but not limited to, a lensometer, keratometer, and pupilometer. Checks frames and lenses received from manufacturer. Determine problems and take corrective measures to the satisfaction of the patient. Conduct and maintain yearly inventory audits of all equipment and instrumentation within the Optician area, Resolves problems regarding waits and delays specific to. eye glass ordering, fitting and/or dispensing. Experience:
You must possess (1) year of specialized experience which equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level in the Federal Service. Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. Specialized experience also includes gathering information from the patient for frame and lens selection based on their prescription; assisting patients in frame selection; coordinate and evaluate the optical prescription; adjusts frame and lens position to fit patient; completes necessary measurements for accurate ordering of eyeglasses; perform necessary testing using various optician instrumentation and equipment, such as, lensometer, keratometer, and pupilometer; determine problems and take corrective measures; conduct and maintain yearly inventory audits of all equipment and instrumentation. This experience must be supported by your resume to be creditable. OR EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION:
Possess 6 months of graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience requirement for the GS-6 grade level. If education is used to meet specialized experience requirements, then such education must include courses directly related to the work of the position. (When crediting education, prorate the number of hours of related courses required as a proportion of the total education to be used. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND
Experience:
Possess the equivalent combinations of education and experience, as described above, to meet the requirements for this GS-6 grade level. are also qualifying.
