Program Support Asst (OA)

The primary purpose of this position is to provide program support and specialized medical coding of P&LMS reports and provides support to medical education and research with multiple sub-specialties of healthcare. Duties will include but may not be limited to the following:
Program Support, Data, Reporting:
schedules appointments, coordinates meetings and/or conferences and maintains calendars; assists in acquisition, development and schedule of program resource materials, equipment and personnel; processes incoming/outgoing correspondence, reports, memoranda and other forms of written communication, as well as patient materials (tissue blocks and slides); prepares public presentation outlines and develops forms letters and replies to inquiries. Uses software applications to collect, enter, research, compile, summarize, and track data and program information for a variety of programs. Performs record keeping and billing for laboratory, including for research studies. Produces a variety of documents, pathology reports, standard operating procedures, quality assurance reports, management and technical reports. Maintains time and attendance for employees. Coding and Medical Terminology:
codes Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and/or SNOMED source documents and enters data into the computer for pathology reports based on knowledge of medical terminology and correlation with the pathology diagnosis. Acts as the resource on SNOMED coding and researches and provides answers to questions; assures accurate/timely coding of Cancer cases to meet the accreditation standards of the American College of Surgeons, and that the pathology coding needs of the Cancer program are met. Office Automation (OA):
operates copiers, scanners, fax machines, dictation software, telephone with voice mail, etc. Performs OA duties using various computer software systems (Electronic Mail, Word Processing, calendar, spreadsheet, databases, graphics, desktop publishing), includes imaging scanning. Data Transcription and Filing codes, enters and verifies data keyed into automated systems; performs data transcription duties to transcribe both alpha and numeric entries that involve a variety of standardized documents that have different transcribing procedures, formats, coding or other features. Provides guidance to other employees on complicated data transcribing assignments. Arranges administrative and clinical records for storage/reference, scheduled disposition and retrieval. Follows file retention and disposal guidelines. Performs other duties as necessary. Work Schedule:

Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS 5 grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS 6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS 5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. Experience:
Requires one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least next lower grade level (GS-5) in the Federal service that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience is working in a medical/healthcare administrative environment applying skill utilizing medical terminology and CPT diagnosis coding to code source documents and enter the codes/data into the computer; using various software (Word, Excel Electronic Mail, spreadsheets, graphics) to execute a wide range of office automation functions to include storing, retrieving files, formatting letters, correspondence, reports and memoranda, developing spreadsheets/graphics; scheduling meetings, conferences, and appointments. Resume(s) must clearly support the duties and experience required for this position. We will not make assumptions regarding experience. AND TYPING PROFICIENCY:
This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. A Quality Ranking Factor has also been requested by the facility to help determine which of the basically qualified applicants are likely to be better qualified for a position. Experience applying skill utilizing SNOMED (Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine) system to enter pathology medical coding to correlate to medical diagnosis. This experience must be supported by resume(s) to be creditable. Quality Ranking Factors are skills, knowledge, abilities, or other worker characteristics which could be expected to result in superior performance on the job. Quality ranking factors will not be used for screening but may be used as ranking criteria. Applicants with higher proficiency levels may rank above those with lower proficiency levels on a quality ranking factor. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
