Legal Administrative Specialist (Litigation Support)

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for technical and analytical assistance to support the litigation needs of the United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of New York. Typical work assignments will include:
Providing technical advice to litigation teams on legal automation requirements and systems capabilities to facilitate litigation decisions, trial preparation and trial presentations Performing a wide range of information system analysis, development and installation in support of District litigation support activities Analyzing automated litigation support functions and recommending changes to increase efficiency and effectiveness Evaluating new developments in legal technology, including software courtroom presentation equipment and trial exhibit preparation equipment in order to recommend modifications and upgrades of services and equipment Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. As needed, additional positions may be filled using this announcement. GS-9:
To be eligible at the GS-9 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below:
Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience. Specialized
Experience:
One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level. Specialized experience is defined as providing automated litigation support services involving a variety of computer hardware, software, or graphics applications in order to organize, review and present evidence before a jury, grand jury or other legal proceedings (i.e.,Eclipse, Trial Director, Adobe Cloud Software, advanced knowledge of Excel etc); works with IT staff in diagnosing and resolving litigation support computer system problems; customizes databases and programs modified to meet individual user needs. Education:
One of the following types of education in a closely related field:
a Master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B., Applied Statistics, Computer Science, Computer Forensics, Data Analytics, Project Management, etc. ); OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Combining Education and
Experience:
Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year. GS-11:
To be eligible at the GS-11 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below:
Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience. Specialized
Experience:
One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level. Specialized experience is defined as experience providing technical advice to litigation teams on legal automation requirements and systems capabilities to facilitate litigation decisions, trial preparation and trial presentation. Subject matter expert in discovery processing platforms, discovery review software, and databases, trial presentation software, and spreadsheet and word processing applications to provide support to prepare, organize, index, develop, and manage exhibits, evidence, or other data relevant to cases presented before a jury, grand jury or in other legal proceedings. Education:
One of the following types of education in a closely related field:
a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate degree (Applied Statistics, Computer Science, Computer Forensics, Data Analytics, Project Management, etc.); OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Combining Education and
Experience:
Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 2 full years. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
