Duties and responsibility to include but are not limited to:
The Massage Therapist provides treatment that promotes the prevention, remediation and rehabilitation of acute and chronic physical and psychosocial dysfunction. The individual assesses and develop plan of care for the patients. Conducts massage therapy assessments utilizing professionally accepted procedures including structured interview, direct observation, standardized testing and medical record review and documents assessments in the medical record in a timely manner. Develops massage therapy treatment plans to address specific clinical needs identified in the assessment process. The format and content of all treatment plans must conform to the Joint Commission and professional standards of practice. Evaluates patient response to treatment and provides verbal reports to the physician that may have diagnostic or medical significance. Documents response to treatment interventions and status related to accomplishment of goals/objectives in the medical record in accordance with Massage Therapy service policies and procedures and in compliance with the Joint Commission and professional standards of practice. Develops and supports other chronic pain management programs such as Aromatherapy program, fitness programs, Tai Chi program, Yoga program etc. as requested by the pain committee or supervisors. Develops and submits requests for supplies, equipment and other support essential to the provision of quality patient treatment in assigned bed section/program. Submits funding justification to the Associate Chief Nurse Operations for budget allocations and effectively manages and utilizes approved funds. Orients interdisciplinary team members, residents, students and volunteers regarding massage therapy as a treatment modality and explains theoretical and practical aspects of the profession to various groups and individuals within the medical center and community. Provides supervision and training to massage therapy interns and physical therapy assistant students from affiliated academic institutions when completing clinical training in their area of clinical specialization. Instructs interns on assessment methodologies, diagnosis and treatment implications and treatment strategies and modalities. Participates actively in Massage therapy process improvement programs including development of process and outcome-based indicators, reviewing/evaluating data and assisting with indicated actions to enhance the quality and appropriateness of patient care. Responsibilities:
Therapist schedules patient treatment visits, determines reasons for absences Maintains patient attendance records, statistics. Writes meaningful and prompt problem-oriented progress notes, evaluations, and discharge notes Records patient equipment issued Participates in monthly Quality Management studies if appropriate. Adheres to all VA, departmental, hospital policies, maintains security, confidentiality of patient records Provides appropriate educational experiences for students and self (i.e. attend in-services, continuing education seminars). Maintains inventory of clinic equipment, supplies submit information for requests of equipment, supplies through appropriate supervising personnel Work Schedule:

Not required BASIC REQUIREMENTS. The basic requirements for employment as a Health Technician (Massage Therapy) are prescribed by Public Law 96-151 and codified in 38 U.S.C. 7402. To qualify for appointment, all applicants for the position of Health Technician (Massage Therapy) in VHA must meet the following:
a. Citizenship. Candidates must be a citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified candidates in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g, this part.) b. Education Candidates must complete a minimum 500-hour massage therapy education program. c. Licensure, Registration, or Certification (1) Candidates must be currently licensed, registered, or certified to practice as a massage therapist in a state, territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Acceptable credentials must have required successful completion of a minimum 500-hour massage therapy education program and pass the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Examination, National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork Examination, or equivalent state-issued examination. OR, (2) Candidates must possess and maintain a board certification from the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB). NOTE:
As of the date of this standard, several states do not offer a credential in massage therapy. Additionally, some states offer a credential that does not meet the 500-hour education program and/or state-issued examination requirements described above in subparagraph 3.c.(1). Candidates may satisfy the basic requirement of licensure/certification/registration by possessing and maintaining a board certification from the NCBTMB. d. Physical Requirements. The position requires long periods of standing, walking, stooping and/or bending, utilizing hands and arms for massage therapy in additional the occasional lifting and carrying of moderately heavy objects. Rigid deadlines and need for high degree of accuracy periodically becomes stressful. e. English Language Proficiency. Individuals appointed under the authority of 38 U.S.C. chapters 73 or 74, to serve in a direct patient-care capacity in VHA, must be proficient in written and spoken English. See Chapter 2, section D, paragraph 5a, this part.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
