The Role: Xylem seeks to hire a Quality Engineer to join its Applied Water Systems team in Buffalo, NY. The Quality Engineer will perform internal / product/ process audits, set quality assurance standards, mentor operators and inspectors, facilitate corrective and preventive action, and provide statistical study information for quality improvement of processes and products. The successful candidate should have experience in a Quality Assurance department, exceptional communication skills, and strong technical skills, especially in MS Office.
Essential Duties:
Conducting process and internal audits
Executing product audits including material identification / verification & traceability
Collecting data for process capability studies and new product verification
Monitoring in-process testing and inspection activities
Audit material segregation and disposition
Facilitate documentation controlandcalibration system
Corrective / preventative action and continuous improvement
Support safety management
Mentor / train operators in metrology and quality control methods
Represent QA Department at meetings on behalf of QMS Manager, as needed.
Minimum
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering
1-3 years' experience in Quality Assurance department
2 years internal auditor experience, certified ASQ auditor a plus
1-2 years Six Sigma and/or lean training preferred
Exceptional communication skills; verbal, written, presentation
ASQ certified Green Belt preferred
ASQ certified Quality Engineer preferred
Machine shop / heavy industrial experience preferred
Safety training preferred, OSHA 30 hour training a plus
Hands-on Metrology skills, a must
Reliable transportation for local travel and off shift work
Strong technical skills including Microsoft Office Suite, Minitab, and CAD/Visio/iGrafx
Must be able to attain US Government Security Clearance
Working conditions:
Work is performed in a typical manufacturing plant environment under the following conditions: noise, fumes, dust, and high voltage electric current.
Some duties are performed outdoors and may involve exposure to inclement weather conditions.
Physical Requirements:
Physical requirements include: good vision and hearing; ability to stand and walk, lift and carry up to 20 pounds occasionally and/or 10 pounds frequently; stoop, crouch, kneel reach for and handle items, pick, pinch or otherwise work with the fingers and use the fingertips to perceive attributes of objects such as size, shape and surface finish.
Some duties require the ability to climb using ladders and stairs.
