Food Service Worker Supervisor

This position serves as a Supervisory Food Service Worker, located at the VHAWNY Medical Center in Buffalo, NY.
The employee performs as a Supervisory Food Service Worker and is responsible for the supervision of staff and students assigned to their shift, the food service functions and operations that include food preparation, safety and sanitation, and the food service provided to patients.
The Supervisory Food Service Worker also assures that the Nutrition & Food Policy and other applicable policies are followed.
Major duties and responsibilities include:
o Supervises and assists in the preparation and delivery of prescribed nourishments and assembly and service of patient trays or dining room service;o Processes computerized diet activity, tray tickets, etc;o Insures proper portioning and accuracy of food items for regular and modified diets;o Provides and supervises soiled dish returns and clean dishwashing activities, and routine housekeeping and sanitation activities;o Inspects work area to assure high standards of sanitation and follows through on all corrective actions;o Develops cleaning procedures for all food service equipment addressing safety factors;o Checks the availability of food and supplies in accordance with the menu and food production sheets for each meal and makes adjustments as necessary to accomplish meal service;o Monitors and makes judgment on food quantities needed and participates in ordering products and goods such as milk, bread, and prime vendor items, as needed;o Troubleshoots problems and answers general questions regarding appropriate diet food items from patients and lower grade employees;o Conducts administrative responsibilities that include scheduled coverage and emergency leave for subordinates, quality control of food items to be served, evaluating work activities and progress through on the spot checks, and maintains all required records as applicable or as assigned for Food Service operations and function;o Supervises activities of the Food Service Workers to insure completion of assigned work and to achieve objectives of established long and short range goals, quality assurance activities, and equal opportunity and affirmative action goals are met;o Completes the quality control monitors (including temperature of dish machine, refrigerators, freezers, food, HAACP, etc), and the Sanitation and Safety Inspection worksheets;o Prioritizes and meets set deadlines for a full range or routing duties such as adjusting work sequence and non-routine assignments;o Conducts a great deal of walking, bending, moving heavy food carts around, frequent lifting or moving of objects, pushing, pulling, continuous standing, and exposure to noise;o Teaches and operates the VISTA software programs and assigned user menus for the Service which may require close visual review of menus, tray tickets for a substantial period of time, and other computer equipment/programs for operations and information processing;o Communicates orally and in writing with his/her supervisor and subordinates to accomplish the mission of the service and to provide on-the-job trainings, orientations, and in-service trainings for employee's assigned to the area, as well as, when necessary completing accident reports forms and sanitation inspection reports; ando Other duties as assigned.

Full-Time (including days times, shift work, weekend call etc.
) 6am-2:
30pm; 7am-3:

30am-7pm.
