This is a highly responsible position overseeing the daily operations of hospital collections and the cashier window.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Patient Financial Services.
Incumbent may exercise some independent judgment in carrying out assigned duties.
Supervision is exercised over lower-level employees.
Does related work as required.
Supervises employees engaged in and assists as needed in daily hospital collections and cashier window activities to ensure accurate and timely posting, balancing receiving and reconciling payments for services rendered; Oversees the in-house collectors including statements, payment plans and collection agencies; Oversees electronic data interchange (EDI) transactions including:
payor enrollment, transfer of funds to professional billing, payor acknowledgement, remittance advice, reconciliation of rejections, and processing patient statements; Coordinates with internal and external departments to ensure proper procedures are followed in the collection of patient cash; Oversees collection, recording and reconciliation of parking receipts; Compiles and reviews periodic reports; Communicates and enforces policies and procedures with subordinate employees; Assists with organization of work and establishing priorities; Assists in the coordination and evaluation of subordinate employees; Monitors and documents staff time and attendance; Plans and oversees training of current and new staff on new and updated procedures; Assists in hiring and training personnel, evaluates staff based on established competencies and prepares and assists with disciplines; Participates in meetings, workgroups, and continuing education sessions to assist in development of process improvements and maintenance of appropriate level of staff support.
Good knowledge of modern office terminology, procedures and equipment related to the collection and deposit of monies and maintenance of cash records and reports; good knowledge of business arithmetic and English; good knowledge of simple record keeping; ability to collect and account for monies received; ability to organize, direct and evaluate work of assigned staff; ability to prepare reports; ability to make change rapidly and accurately; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse constituency; skilled at using Microsoft Word and Excel applications; excellent communication skills; tact; courtesy; capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Minimum
Qualifications:
A) Possession of an Associate's Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or closely related field and three (3) years of general office experience, which must have included the handling of cash, maintaining financial records and data entry, one (1) year of which included supervisory experience; or:
B) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and five (5) years of general office experience, which must have included the handling of cash, maintaining financial records and data entry, one (1) year of which included supervisory experience.
C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
