The Role Tesla is currently seeking a motivated and accomplished Industrial Engineer who will be the owner of Industrial Engineering initiatives for production. The ideal candidate will excel in a demanding and fast-paced environment where they will work as part of a strong, agile, and highly motivated team to accomplish ambitious projects. The candidate takes pride in their thoroughness, analytical ability, organizational skills and attention to detail. The candidate will be able to think at a systems level about ambiguous problems and use strong logic and computation to develop improvement and operational strategies. A successful applicant will have the ability to quantify ambiguous problems to drive data-based decisions. The team is responsible for sustaining, ramping and improving business critical new product lines through collaboration with production, manufacturing process engineering and development, material flow engineering, supply chain, construction and facilities teams. Through a detailed understanding of demand planning objectives and extensive collaboration with internal and external teams, this team ensures overall operational excellence and achieves all of Tesla's objectives. Responsibilities Display a positive attitude and practice strong work ethics that reflects the mission, philosophy and goals of Tesla Work on capacity model development, line balancing, and output optimization Conduct time studies and perform work measurement Manage capacity planning standards for all lines in scope Work with internal operations and management teams to define scenarios for growth and formulate improvement strategies to help with product ramp Define optimization models for various scenarios pertaining to inventory, job scheduling, material requirements and material flow Perform data analysis for equipment and process buy ins, using DOEs, Gage R&Rs and process capability studies Perform discrete event simulation modeling and statistical modeling to influence key business decisions Lead continuous improvement exercises / Kaizens across various manufacturing functions Establish meaningful KPIs to track productivity metrics pertaining to labor, equipment, quality and supply chain Provide feedback on the design and optimize site layouts for production, material flow, construction, and facilities Work with internal operations and engineering teams to ensure that equipment and layout designs align with the overall manufacturing strategy and vision for the factory Enable live, exception-based reporting and analytics of factory performance Standardize metrics and problem solving tools Leverage latest technologies to provide next level solutions Requirements 1-3 years of industrial, manufacturing, or process engineering experience Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Manufacturing Engineering and/or equivalent experience. If Bachelor's Degree is in Mechanical Engineering; minor or Master's in Industrial Engineering / Operations Research / Manufacturing Engineering is preferred. Demonstrated leadership and ability to drive projects with diverse teams in a manufacturing environment Experienced in quantitatively solving ambiguous problems at a systems level. Extensive knowledge in statistical data analysis is a plus Extensive detailed analysis experience to make data-driven decisions and summarize results for executives Exemplary verbal and written communication skills Lean Six Sigma Green Belt / Black Belt certification and experience is preferred (not mandatory) Extensive experience with Excel (VBA a plus) Experience with layouts in AutoCAD Experience designing greenfield facility layouts and/or manufacturing processes is a plus Experience with Catia, Solidworks, Sketchup is a plus Experience with any discrete event simulation software (ARENA, FlexSim, etc) Knowledge of / experience with SQL is preferred, R / Python is a plus Experience with automated manufacturing lines and robotics is a plus Predetermined Motion Time System / MOST knowledge is preferred Might require travel to other Tesla facilities in California (20%) Compensation and Benefits BenefitsAlong with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire:
