Economic Empowerment Specialist

Buffalo, NY Buffalo, NY Part-time Part-time From $19 an hour From $19 an hour Overseeing and implementing workforce development services and financial counseling services that respond to tenants' identified strengths, preferences and needs for self-sufficiency/employment; recruiting and engaging employers and community-based providers to assist in job readiness, job placement and career exploration activities and to develop internships, job shadowing and employment opportunities that advance tenants' goals for education/employment/self-sufficiency; supporting the Coordinator as needed in implementing the LyTE program.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
Provides financial counseling services to include targeted individualized trainings and small group instruction in recognizing financial abuse, attaining financial literacy skills, managing benefits, developing credit, pursuing credit repair and develop long-term financial plans.
2.
Provides Workforce development services to include:
a.
developing individualized Career Plans for achieving survivor-driven goals for education, employment, and self-efficacy.
b.
evaluating the job readiness of survivors.
c.
offering supervised job search sessions.
d.
teaching workplace soft skills and job readiness skills.
e.
identifying job opportunities that will fit individual strengths and abilities.
f.
working with employers to create job opportunities and on-the-job training.
g.
directly assisting tenants in securing employment.
h.
providing timely coaching to enhance job performance and job skills.
3.
Housing navigation services to include identifying housing opportunities that meet survivors' goals for autonomy; advocating with public/private housing services providers to enable survivors to secure preferred housing opportunities; helping to prepare housing applications and understand and tenants' rights; ensuring survivors obtain and repair reports relating to credit, rental and criminal history background checks.
4.
Plays an advocacy role that includes (a) explaining victims' rights and legal options for holding abusers accountable; (b) working with survivors to pursue court petitions (e.
g.
, petitions for orders of protection); (c) helping survivors to navigate the civil/criminal legal system.
5.
Ensures follow-up services to include support such as (a) monthly meetings to confirm safety and stability have been sustained and (b) the development of a post-program Safety Plan.
6.
Ensures compliance with all funding and grant requirements.
7.
Executes and/or coordinates the execution of any required deliverables of grant funded services.
8.
Ensures compliance with agency and program quality assurance standards and procedures.
9.
Completes necessary reports, correspondence and other documents regarding programs and individuals served.
Education and Experience a.
Bachelor's degree in human services; or relevant field.
b.
Two years of experience in vocational support; career exploration; or pre-vocational training positions.
c.
Experience with teaching basic personal budgeting and financial skills.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities a.
Have knowledge and experience providing services to individuals who have complex support needs.
b.
Ability to advocate on behalf of individuals and the agency.
c.
Ability to organize, lead and self-initiate.
d.
Good communication, analytical, organizational and computer skills.
e.
Knowledge of person-centered planning and approaches.
f.
Basic computer knowledge and database management skills.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
