Senior Drafting Technician (Struct.)

In the Office of Structures, under the supervision of a Professional Engineer 1, the incumbents may:
o Prepare drawings of moderate to complex difficulty for a variety of structural engineering projects using MicroStation CADD software. Prepare and check engineering computations of moderate difficulty. o Prepare and check quantity estimates. o Perform field investigations to collect or confirm data. o Develop and utilize complete physical engineering models for design, clash detection, visualization, construction coordination, contract plan preparation, and estimating. o Special assignments to address management needs. Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department's response to regional and statewide emergency situations.

Salary Range:
From $46529 to $59542 Annually
Minimum Qualification
To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law. If a viable eligible list does not exist, a provisional appointment may be made in accordance with Civil Service Law. Candidates who accept a provisional appointment must take the next competitive examination and be reachable on the resultant eligible list in order to be considered for permanent appointment to the position. The minimum requirements for taking the examination are:
One year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an:
Engineering Technician, Environmental Engineering Technician 2, Senior Engineering Technician, or Senior Engineering Technician (Soils). The minimum requirements for taking the Open Competitive examination are:
Either 1. an associate's degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction technology, architecture, or architectural technology; Or 2. a certificate in computer-aided drafting issued by a regionally accredited college or university AND one year of specialized drafting and/or modeling experience in structural engineering projects including but not limited to concrete, steel, or timber structural systems, flexible retaining walls, foundations, or seismic design; Or 3. two years of drafting experience including at least one year of specialized drafting and/or modeling experience in structural engineering projects including but not limited to concrete, steel, or timber structural systems, flexible retaining walls, foundations, or seismic design. Certificates from a Trade or Technical school will be accepted only if it is from an institution that is regionally accredited or recognized by the NYS Department of Education.
