Construction Specialist 1 (Transportation)
As a Construction Specialist 1 in the Highway Design or the Structures Group, your typical duties will include but are not limited to:
Design of capital roadway or bridge projects including preparation of estimates, engineering drawings utilizing 2D/3D CADD applications, project reports, field inspection of project sites or existing infrastructure, quality control review of project documents prepared by others for consistency with department standards and for constructability, and participation in public outreach. Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department's response to regional and statewide emergency situations.

Minimum Qualification
In order to be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law. If a viable eligible list does not exist, a provisional appointment may be made in accordance with Civil Service Law. Candidates who accept a provisional appointment must take the next competitive examination and be reachable on the resultant eligible list to be considered for permanent appointment to the position. The minimum requirements for taking the Promotional examination are:
You must be a qualified employee of New York State with permanent competitive or non-competitive service (including 55-b/55-c) as:
Principal Drafting Technician (General), Principal Drafting Technician (Structural), Principal Engineering Technician, Principal Engineering Technician (Soils), Mapping Technician 3, Mapping Technologist 1, Senior Engineering Materials Analyst, Senior Engineering Materials Chemist, Materials Testing Specialist 1, Engineering Geologist or Traffic Systems Technician 2. In order to be eligible for a provisional appointment candidates must have one year of service described in the Minimum Qualifications for taking the promotional examination.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
