Preferred:
proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, as well as experience using ArcMap GIS software.
Duties Description This position provides technical support for amphibian and reptile projects within Region 9.
May include select sites in Region 8.
Field work may include some travel and variable work schedule.
Primary Duties Include:
Planning, coordination, and implementation of queensnake surveys.
Careful handling of live snakes for data collection.
Collection and processing of eDNA samples for analysis.
Clean, maintain, and organize field equipment.
Enter, compile, and organize data from surveys in Excel and GIS.
Coordinate with other Wildlife staff and volunteers to schedule and complete surveys.
Contact landowners for permission to access private land for surveys.
Assist with population estimate and development of a conservation plan for the queensnakes.
Additional Duties May Include:
Assist with surveys for Blanding's turtles, spotted turtles, and hellbenders.
Assist with other herpetile conservation program tasks as needed.
Additional Comments Must have valid NY driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Overnight travel may be required.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 11/30/2023.
Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
