Summary:
The Assistant Director is the leader of the team accountable for 24 hour/ 7 day a week management and evaluation of clinical and non-clinical operations including nursing practice, patient care delivery, the management of human resources, as well as adjunct and collaborative fiscal responsibility with the Director, Medical/Surgical/Critical Care for all areas assigned for Mercy Hospital. The Assistant Director will be responsible for the retention and development of existing personnel as well as fostering interdisciplinary collaborative relationships within areas of responsibility and the ministry as a whole. The Assistant Director facilitates collegial and collaborative relationships between care teams and ensures policy/procedure/practice, performance improvement and care processes are current and meet the needs of the patient population served. The Assistant Director will be responsible for compliance with regulatory and professional standards and participate in strategic planning for the hospital. The Assistant Director will be responsible for the clinical emergency preparedness, planning, drills and exercises for the ministry. In the absence of the Director, will provide oversight for Medical/Surgical/Critical Care inpatient units.
Responsibilities:
EDUCATION Graduate of an accredited professional school of nursing Current Licensed Professional Nurse in New York State BSN and Master's Degree required Nationally recognized nursing certification or within 1 year of hire BLS Certification EXPERIENCE Five (5) years clinical nursing experience/chart experience with a minimum of three (3) years progressive supervisory/management experience required KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY Interpersonal skills necessary to work productively and effectively with all levels of unit personnel, as well as physicians, families, visitors, and to manage the activities of a diverse group of professional, nonprofessional, and clerical employees Possesses active listening and communication skills Planning skills to develop goals and objectives in concert with those of the hospital and implements action plans to meet those goals Analytical ability to identify opportunities for improvements as well as positive problem resolution Teaching abilities to promote optimum orientation and continuing education of staff Knowledge of Performance Improvement Initiatives and able to identify areas for improvement and carry out measurable action plans Budgeting skills to control fiscal operations of selected unit(s) and/or area(s) of responsibility, and to identify and explain variances Has current knowledge of health care trends and issues and relates same to hospital and work area environment Occasional prolonged standing, walking, sitting Computer literate WORKING CONDITIONS Occasional exposure to one or more mildly unpleasant physical conditions
Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
Minimum Qualification
Healthcare ManagementEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
